Why did you choose to pursue a legal career?
It was a profession that I always looked up to and from a very young age I aspired to be a solicitor. It followed from undertaking some work experience with my uncle at the age of 12 and as the saying goes, the rest is history. I have never looked back and I am fortunate enough to be able to say that I love what I do.
What do you enjoy most about your job at Thaliwal Veja?
Being a voice for individuals to advance their rights and the amazing team I work with. They’re all extremely passionate about what they do and the individuals they represent. The focus of the firm is client centred and that makes it a firm that I am proud to be part of. I also admire the number of community based projects and charitable causes the firm is involved with.
What has been your highest career achievement so far?
Every successful outcome is an achievement, I couldn’t possibly pick just one. Although assisting a bedbound client who lacked capacity to access the garden after seven years of confinement in her care home bedroom was a memorable moment, and it is always a great outcome when we manage to prove that someone deemed to lack capacity actually has capacity to make decisions for themselves. I was also rather touched when a former client pursued a career in law after being inspired by the way in which I represented him, over a decade later he is doing remarkably well in his legal career. I guess that’s got to be a highlight.
What are your career plans / ambitions?
I hope to continue to develop our expanding Court of Protection department and to be able to contribute positively to this evolving area of law.
A little about you?
I am a member of the Court of Protection Practitioners Association and a governor at a local school. I am also a Trustee of South Leicestershire Foodbank which I find extremely rewarding. Any spare time goes on being a default chauffer and butler for my two amazing children. I also like to think that I am quite the chef and often subject my family and friends to experimental cuisines from around the world. Oh, and I find any excuse to avoid the gym!
